MI vs RR. (Source -IPL)00

Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will be facing each other in the 14th match of the IPL 2024. Both the teams have had a contrasting journey in the league so far. While RR have won both their matches in the season till now, MI have lost both their matches in the league till now. Both the teams will be facing each other at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which promises to be a good contest between bat and ball.

It will be the first match at Mumbai in the IPL 2024. There will be a dew factor and the toss might be an important factor. Both the teams would be looking forward to winning the match. MI have some of the best players in the world in their lineup. At the top of the batting order, they have the duo of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma who complement well. The left-right duo can come good in the upcoming games.

In the middle order, MI has the likes of Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, Hardik Pandya, Tim David, and many others who can make an impact with the bat. In the bowling unit, MI has some great bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee, Piyush Chawla, Kwena Maphaka, Hardik Pandya, and Romaria Shepherd. In addition to that, they have some good bowlers in the dugout like Nuwan Tushara, Mohammad Nabi, and Akash Madhwal. Given how things panned out in the last game, RR would be high on confidence.

Here is the probable playing XI of RR for the match against MI in IPL 2024, Match 14:

Openers – Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue to open for RR. Both of them are not in good form and would love to score some runs on the board. Buttler has not been in good form for a long time. The right-handed batter has batted slow which has not helped him either. RR would hope to score some runs against MI, which happens to be his favourite opponent.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has not fired with the bat in the last two matches. After having a brilliant season for RR in the IPL 2023, the youngster was expected to be the leading batter of RR. However, he has yet to play a great knock. The youngster would be hoping to make an impact against MI. Wankhede Stadium is familiar to the 22-year-old, which must help him to get going.

Middle Order – Sanju Samson (C & WK), Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Shimron Hetmyer

Sanju Samson will bat at 3 for RR. He will lead RR and will also keep the wickets. The star batter won the match for RR against LSG by his batting. He would be hoping to play a key role against MI. Riyan Parag has been in sublime form with the bat. At number 4, Parag scored 43(29) against LSG and followed it up with a brilliant 84(45) against DC in the last game.

At numbers 5 and 6, either Shimron Hetmyer or Dhruv Jurel are likely to bat based on the scenarios. If there are lesser number of balls left in the game, Hetmyer is likely to bat at 6. If there is a potential scenario where there needs to be someone who can anchor the innings, Jurel would bat up the order. Either ways, RR has got a good option outside the top four batters.

All-Rounder – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin will be the sole All-Rounder in the lineup of RR. The star player played a key role in his team’s win against DC. His cameo of 29(19) changed the momentum of the game. It was his knock which helped Riyan Parag to settle in the middle and go after the bowlers later in the innings. Even with the ball, Ashwin has bowled some economical spells which have allowed bowlers at the other end to claim wickets.

Bowlers – Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Nandre Burger (Impact substitute)

Trent Boult is the designated new ball bowler for RR. The left-arm pacer can swing the ball early in the innings and wreak havoc. To accompany him with the new ball would be Nandre Burger. Very similar to Boult, Burger can swing the ball, but at a good pace. He can also seam the ball and bowl good bouncers at a very good pace. In the middle overs, the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal will be operating from either end.

While Ashwin acts as an economical bowler, Chahal is the wicket-taking bowler. Both of them complement well and help RR to perform well as a bowling unit with their experience. RR has designated a pace bowling duo for the death overs. Avesh Khan and Sandeep Sharma have been impressive with their yorkers and wide yorkers. They have been able to deliver the goods in both matches for RR in the last 4 overs of the game.
