Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will be taking on each other in the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Both teams have had a similar journey in the ongoing league. DC has had a mixed bag in the league so far. They lost the first two matches against PBKS and RR by 7 wickets and 20 runs respectively. In the game against CSK, they made a comeback and won the match by 28 runs. In their most recent match, DC lost to KKR by 106 runs.
MI have lost all their matches so far. In the first match, they had a good chance of claiming a win. However, MI choked and lost by 6 runs to GT. In their second match, MI conceded the highest total for a bowling side against SRH. They indeed were impressive by scoring 246 runs in the second innings chasing a target of 277 runs. But the game against RR was forgettable, as they were bundled out for just 125 runs in their own backyard and lost by 6 wickets.
Both teams would be hoping to win the upcoming game. The match is set to take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will be the second match at the venue. The home side will start as the favourites given the quality of players. DC has some of the best players in the world like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, Tim David, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and many others. MI has players who can perform well against DC.
Here is the playing XI of DC against MI.
Openers – David Warner and Prithvi Shaw

At the top, DC has two swashbuckling openers, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. In the IPL 2022, the duo formed a great pair and batted well. Their aggressive starts are always good to watch. The left-right combination is an added advantage to DC at the top. Warner can bat through the innings and anchor one end. Prithvi Shaw from his end can go hard at the bowlers.
Warner has been amongst the best batters the league has ever seen. He has been in good form in the ongoing league. The star batter did not have a great outing against KKR but would be hoping to put runs on the board against MI. Shaw would be happy to be playing the game against MI which is set to take place at Wankhede Stadium, his home ground in domestic cricket.
Middle order – Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Abhishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs

In the middle order, DC has a set of talented batters. Among them, Rishabh Pant is the one to watch out for. The star batter has returned to form in the last couple of games following a long time away from cricket. He would be aiming to make an impact behind the stumps and as a skipper too. To follow him would be Tristan Stubbs, who has played a couple of cameos lower down the order.
The South African batter has been impressive as a finisher but needs support from the other end. The form of some of the batters is a concern for DC. At number 6, DC is likely to continue with Abhishek Porel. The youngster played a fine cameo in the game against PBKS. Though he has not been able to make an impact since then, Porel can be expected to deliver the goods.
All-rounders – Mitchell Marsh and Axar Patel

In the All-rounders category, DC has some of the best options. In the pace-bowling department, DC has Mitchell Marsh. The Australian can win matches on his own with the bat and be handy with the ball. He has the ability to strike the ball well and bat in an aggressive way. As a bowler, he can be handy with his part-time bowling. He’s a very good fielder too.
Axar Patel has not been at his best with the bat. But DC is hoping he will come good in the upcoming game. In 2023, he was one of the best finishers in the league. The Southpaw played some good knocks lower down the order. With the ball, Axar has been good. He is economical and can claim wickets if the batters go after him. The star cricketer is essential for the balance of DC in the league.
Bowlers – Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, and Praveen Dubey (Impact substitute)

In the powerplay overs, Khaleel Ahmed will continue to operate with the new ball. The left-arm pacer has been highly impressive with the new ball where he has got some swing. To assist him at the other end would be Anrich Nortje and Ishant Sharma. While Nortje would trouble the batters with his sheer pace, Sharma becomes dangerous with his height, seam movement, and genuine inswinger.
In the middle overs, DC has options like Mukesh Kumar and Praveen Dubey. The absence of Kuldeep Yadav will hurt them badly. In his absence, Dubey is likely to be in the XI. In the death overs, Mukesh will be the key for DC. He will bowl 3 of the last 5 overs. To assist him on the other end would be Anrich Nortje and either Ishant Sharma or Khaleel Ahmed. Their death bowling needs improvement.
