Punjab Kings have had a dismal start to the Indian Premier League 2024 as they sit at ninth position with two wins and five losses. Six out of those seven games have finished in the final over which indicates that they have been close to victory but have not been able to be clinical when required the most.
The next game for the Punjab Kings is against Gujarat Titans, who are also in a spot of bother. Skipper Shubman Gill and his side sit at the eighth position on the standings and were humiliated by Delhi Capitals in their last encounter. A win is a must for both these teams to stay in contention for this year’s playoffs.
Ahead of this crucial encounter at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, let’s take a look at how the hosts would line-up for this clash.
Here is the probable playing XI of PBKS for the match against GT in IPL 2024, Match 37
Openers: Prabhsimran Singh, Atharva Taide
Punjab Kings have surely kept their faith in Prabhsimran Singh this season and despite no great showing in the first seven games, the franchise may have no choice but to continue with him for the upcoming game. There is no clarity whether Shikhar Dhawan would be fit for this game or not and Prabhsimran might have another shot at redemption this season.
When Atharva Taide started the game against Rajasthan Royals, it was believed that the opener would get a good amount of games this season. However, after a decent performance with the bat, he was dropped from the playing XI. Due to the injury to skipper Shikhar Dhawan, Taide might be given another chance at the top and this move can turn out to be a great one for the franchise.

Middle Order: Rilee Rossouw, Jitesh Sharma, Shashank Singh, Ashutosh Sharma
Some eyebrows were raised when the team management decided to start Rilee Rossouw instead of Jonny Bairstow in the previous game. The South African international did not have a great game as he was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the second over itself. However, he might be given another shot in the upcoming game and would be looking to make a statement with the bat this time around.
Jitesh Sharma was in the running for the wicket-keeper position in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June prior to the 2024 IPL. However, his string of poor performances with the bat have surely left him out of the race for the squad. He is still looking for a great innings which can be beneficial for his franchise this season.
Shashank Singh kept the momentum going after coming to bat inside the power play against the Mumbai Indians. He was dismissed off a great ball by Jasprit Bumrah and is one of the most consistent batters for the franchise this season. The veteran batter would be looking for another solid knock for the team against the Gujarat Titans.
The name of Ashutosh Sharma has surely rised up the ranks in the past few days after his exemplary innings against the Mumbai Indians. He was unlucky to get dismissed at a crucial juncture of the game but has surely proved that he is capable with the bat and can be promoted up the order if required.
All-rounder: Sam Curran (C), Liam Livingstone
Despite having a poor season last year, the team management kept their faith with Sam Curran. He has certainly lived up to the faith shown to him by the franchise as he has been clinical with the bat and ball. The all-rounder is in the race for the Purple Cap and his batting ability has also been better this year. He would be looking to slot into his preferred middle-order spot after a poor knock while opening in the last match.
Liam Livingstone has not been able to live-up to the expectations and hype that he generated prior to the tournament. He is The X-factor player as he can change the tide of the match with his aggressive innings and can scalp a few wickets using his spin. However, he has not been impressive this year and would be looking for a turnaround against Gujarat Titans.
Bowlers: Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Arsdheep Singh, Kagiso Rabada
Harpreet Brar has been one of the most promising players for the Punjab Kings this season. Even though he has not been able to pick wickets as regulary this year, he has been economical and accurate. The spinner would be hoping to pick-up a fair few wickets in his side’s next encounter at home.
Kagiso Rabada was constantly dropped from the line-up and Nathan Ellis was given the go ahead last year. However, the former has come to the tournament and is proving his ability as a T20 bowler. The pacer has been bowling great spells and scalping wickets regularly for the franchise.

Even though Harshal Patel has been leaking runs, he has managed to take wickets from time-to-time. He was able to take three wickets against the Mumbai Indians and used his slower ones quite effectively. The speedster would be hoping for another great performance.
