Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) will be up against each other in the 40th match of the IPL 2024. The match is set to take place on the 24th of April 2024 at 7:30 PM (IST) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. GT will be high on confidence having won their last match. They restricted PBKS to just 142 runs and chased it down with 6 wickets in hand. The star performers for GT were R Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmed with the ball. The spin trio outfoxed the batters of PBKS.

While Rashid bowled an economical spell of 1/15 in his 4 overs, Noor Ahmad bowled a brilliant spell of 2/20 in his 4 overs. But the pick of the bowlers was Sai Kishore who claimed 4/33 in his 4 overs. With the bat, it was Rahul Tewatia who finished the game for his side. DC suffered a massive defeat in their last game against SRH. With the ball, they conceded a whopping 266 runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel bowled well. The spin duo claimed 5 wickets among themselves.

While Kuldeep got smashed, he claimed 4 wickets. Axar claimed 1/29 in his spell of 4 overs. With the bat, Jake Fraser McGurk was brilliant. He smashed a brilliant 67(18) before getting dismissed. The match against GT will be crucial for DC to make a comeback in the league. They need to beat the visiting side by a huge margin to stay alive in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. They have some of the best batters in the world who can get the job done in the middle.

Here is the strongest predicted playing of DC for the 40th match of the IPL 2024 against GT:

Openers – Prithvi Shaw and David Warner

DC are likely to continue with the same opening combination. Prithvi Shaw has been brilliant in the ongoing league. The right-handed batter did not play the first two matches. Against CSK, he made a good return. Since then, he has not looked back and has been the best opener for his side. The star batter is aggressive and does not follow any other template of batting. His brisk starts have helped DC to get good starts despite the inconsistency at the other end.

David Warner is having arguably his worst season as a batter in a long time. The Southpaw has not been able to win matches for his side. The 37-year-old is one of the greats of the league. However, his form is a concern for DC. At any point in the league, he can return to form. DC would be hoping it to happen sooner rather than later. When in flow, the Australian batter can win matches on his own. If he gets going, DC has a good chance of winning.

Middle Order – Jake Fraser McGurk, Rishabh Pant, Abhishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs

In the middle order, Delhi Capitals have some of the most aggressive batters. At number 3, DC have the dynamo, Jake Fraser McGurk. The emerging batter has taken the league by storm with his batting in the last three matches. His batting has helped DC to win two matches. Rishabh Pant is likely to bat at number 4. The season has been a mixed bag for the Southpaw where he has either been excellent or rather poor with the bat. As a skipper and as a wicketkeeper, there is room for improvement.

Next in line is Abhishek Porel, the youngster who has played good innings for DC in the ongoing season. He can keep the wickets when required. In the last game against SRH, his cameo kept DC alive in the game. Tristan Stubbs is likely to be the key finisher of DC. The South African has been one of the best finishers in the ongoing league. The right-handed batter has played fine knocks for DC. If he can get a bit of support from the other end, Stubbs can be a match-winner.

All-Rounders – Axar Patel and Sumit Kumar

DC have a genuine all-rounder like Axar Patel in their lineup. The Southpaw has not been at his best with the bat. It has probably damaged the balance of the side. DC have not made good use of their impact player. Axar has been good with the ball. In the last game against SRH, his spell stopped SRH from scoring 300 runs. Axar did not just pick the massive wicket of Heinrich Klaasen but also conceded just 29 runs in his spell of 4 overs with an economy of 7.31. However, he needs to step up with the bat.

At the other end, DC have some youngsters who can chip in both with the bat and with the ball. However, none of them have been successful so far. Lalit Yadav conceded a lot of runs with the ball against SRH. Neither was he impressive with the bat. Rasikh Salam got a chance to play against KKR but was expensive. Sumit Kumar is likely to get a chance against GT. The emerging player has not gotten enough opportunities to prove himself. He can finish the innings well and be handy with the ball.

Bowlers – Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar

DC have some good bowlers in their lineup. Their records are good on paper. With the new ball, Khaleel Ahmed has been brilliant. The left-arm pacer has claimed wickets upfront. He can swing the ball away from the left-handers. The talented pacer can deliver an over outside the powerplay overs. To bowl alongside him, DC have the experience of Ishant Sharma. The right-arm pacer has blown hot and cold. On his days, Sharma can bowl terrific spells. Otherwise, he delivers poor spells.

In the middle overs, DC has spin bowling options like Axar and Kuldeep Yadav. While Axar is economical from his end, Yadav is a genuine wicket-taker. Both of them complement each other well. They have been the main reason for DC’s wins this season. Mukesh Kumar is the designated death bowler of DC. The right-arm pacer can deliver a couple of overs upfront and claim wickets too. When in rhythm, he nails yorkers and gives little to no room for the batters.
