The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia is going to host a high-voltage T20 World Cup 2024 clash between England and South Africa on Friday, June 21.
Both teams are coming off wins in their opening fixtures in the Super Eights stage of the marquee event. The Three Lions got the better of co-hosts West Indies in their previous game after making a mockery of a challenging 181-run target. Powered by Phil Salt’s sparkling 87 not out off 47 balls, the defending champions romped home with eight wickets and 15 balls to spare, handing West Indies their first loss of the campaign.
Meanwhile, South Africa won their fifth consecutive game in the tournament, as they edged past an upbeat USA side by 18 runs to start their Super Eights run on a high. Quinton de Kock stood out with the bat, as his 74 off 40 balls helped the Proteas set up a stiff target of 195 for the debutants. Kagiso Rabada starred with the ball and finished with figures of 3/18, as the USA were restricted to 176/6 after giving South Africa a massive scare at one stage.
