On Tuesday, June 25, Afghanistan and Bangladesh lock horns in a crucial Super Eight fixture with semifinal implications. This high-octane clash will be held at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent.

Afghanistan have two points from as many games in Group 1 so far. They lost to India by 47 runs in Barbados before registering a famous win against mighty Australia by 21 runs in St Vincent. Meanwhile, Bangladesh are yet to register a point as they suffered defeats in Antigua against Australia and India by 28 runs (DLS method) and 50 runs respectively.

Both teams will be watching the match between India and Australia on Monday quite carefully. If Australia win the match, it will knock Bangladesh out of the competition and Afghanistan will have to register a huge win to take their net run rate above that of Australia. However, if India beat the Aussies, both Afghanistan and Bangladesh will be honing in on the one spot that will be left in the semis. A win will be enough for the Blue Tigers, while the Bangla Tigers will have to defeat Rashid Khan’s men by a massive margin to progress further.

Pitch Report and Conditions

Spinners have done well at the Arnos Vale Ground so far. The average first innings score in four matches so far in the tournament is 132. All matches have been won by teams batting first. Winning the toss and opting to bat first is going to be a good ploy. Also, bowling is the stronger suit of both teams and their captains shouldn’t have too many concerns in defending targets.

Probable Best Batter: Rahmanullah Gurbaz

The flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter has been in stupendous form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He is the highest run-getter so far, having amassed 238 runs from six matches at an average of 39.67 and a strike rate of 141.67. If Gurbaz gets going and forms a partnership with Ibrahim Zadran, Afghanistan become way more dangerous than they already are.
