Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be taking on Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 9th match of the Indian Premier League 2024. The match is set to take place on the 28th of March 2024 at 7:30 PM (IST) at Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur. The two teams have had a contrasting start to the 17th edition of the league. While RR won their first match against LSG by 20 runs, DC lost their first match against PBKS by 6 wickets. While RR would be hoping to continue the winning momentum, SC would be hoping to claim their first win.
DC is yet to play at home and will be touring Jaipur for the second game of their season. RR will be playing their second consecutive game at home. Both the teams have some world-class players in their teams. DC has the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser McGurk, and Shai Hope in the top order. In addition to it, they have a great middle order which consists of the likes of Rishabh Pant, Ricky Bhui, Abhishek Porel, Tristan Stubbs, Yash Dhull, and many other talented players.
They also have some very good All-Rounders like Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Sumit Kumar, and others who would be looking to make a mark in the league. They also have a good variety in the bowling. Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar forma good pace unit among the Indian bowlers. Among the overseas pacers, they have the likes of Anrich Nortje and Jhye Richardson. The 2020 finalists also have good spin options like Vicky Ostwal, Praveen Dubey, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Here is the most probable playing XI of Rajasthan Royals
Openers: Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top can prove to be the most destructive duo, given their ability to dominate the opposition right from the word ‘go’. The duo opened together for the game against LSG and batted well in the early stages of the match. Jaiswal was the aggressor among the two, and Buttler was fairly attacking. While the latter got dismissed very early, the southpaw tried to smash the bowlers for fun. Jaiswal played an entertaining cameo before getting dismissed by Mohsin Khan.
The left-right combination is good, and having an ultra aggressive opener among them is an added advantage. Given how successful the duo has been, RR is likely to see them open throughout the tournament. If required, Jaiswal can be handy with the ball. The T20 World Cup 2022 winning skipper can also keep wickets and lead the side. It is good to have the options at the top, which can be helpful in the team combination. The key for the Rajasthan-based franchise would be the start provided by the pair.
Middle Order: Sanju Samson (C & WK), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel

At number three, Sanju Samson played a captain’s knock in the first game. He played a brilliant hand and helped RR to win the game against LSG by his batting. The star batter smashed 82(52) and helped RR recover from the early turbulence. At number 4, RR is likely to back Riyan Parag. The young batter was impressive as he scored 43(29) and helped his skipper at the other end before getting dismissed.
Following him would be Shimron Hetmyer who did not get to face as many balls as he would have liked. At number 6, RR will have Dhruv Jurel, who has been in a brilliant form in the last year or so. The youngster proved his mettle for Rajasthan in the 2023 edition, and after his recent India debut, the stumper-batter has shown good form.
All-Rounders: Ravichandran Ashwin

Spin veteran and right-handed batter, Ravichandran Ashwin, is expected to play a big role as an all-rounder. With the bat, he will have the responsibility of playing cameos in good positions and anchoring the innings in case of collapse. With the ball, he has the ability to stem the flow of runs, and give crucial breakthroughs.
If required, Riyan Parag can be handy with a short burst with the ball. If RR bat first, there might not be any change in their batting order. While bowling, Nandre Burger is likely to come in as the impact substitute. He can be deadly with the new ball as a partner to Trent Boult and claim wickets.
Bowlers: Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan

Trent Boult is deadly with the new ball where he can take the ball away from and into the batters. More often than not, he claims wickets for his side and does the damage at the top. To assist him, RR have the sensation in the making, Nandre Burger. Given the height, Burger can extract some bounce and can be deadly with his sheer pace. Avesh Khan is likely to be the first change bowler in the attack of RR, who can be handy with the new ball and in the middle overs phase.
Ravichandran Ashwin will be handy with his economical spells in the middle overs. At the other end, RR have the experience of Yuzvendra Chahal, who can be their key weapon to claim wickets in the middle overs phase. Sandeep Sharma is the designated death bowler of RR, and has done an excellent job at the fag end of the innings, stopping the leakage of runs. The experienced had an outing worth remembering against LSG for an exceptional spell.
